Bilingual Nursery & School

Learning through exploration & discovery

Short intro My Second Home's program and philosophy for teaching, short and direct

The program

At My Second Home we believe children learn by doing. Exploration and discovery are part of our everyday activities. Children are exposed to guided activities (individual to cooperative learning) and expressive activities such as mud play, water play, painting, cooking, and activities that encourage them to use their imagination.

Ages Accepted

At our 300 West Baseline location, we accept children from 2.5 to 6 years of age. We have two classrooms: a preschool classroom and a pre-kindergarten classroom.

At our 1321 West Baseline location we accept infants (from 6 weeks to 1 year of age), toddlers (from 1 to 2.5 years of age), and preschoolers (from 2.5 to 6 years of age).

Our Program

We offer a unique program that encourages children to learn about the world around them through fun and interactive activities. Children at My Second Home are exposed to activities that promote critical thinking skills and love for learning.

Children are encouraged to socialize with each other and to express themselves by creating pieces of art, by using pretend play, and to express their feelings with words. For this reason we do not use computers as a tool in the classroom.

It is our belief that children need to be active in order to learn. The children play outside twice a day for at least 45 minutes.

The Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the understanding that children are active in their learning. Our trained staff selects activities to keep children under their care fully engaged. Each activity is created to cover different areas of development such as:

  • Language development·

  • Large and fine motor skills·

  • Cognitive development·

  • Social development

Using observations as a tool, teachers are able to better understand and meet each child at their own level of development. Every year the teaching staff and director get together and choose the themes to be taught for the school year. Doing this assures children will not be working on the same themes year after year.

Social development is crucial to the wellbeing of the child. We work very hard on teaching children to learn and recognize their feelings and provide them with different strategies such as breathing techniques or the use of soft toys to soothe themselves.
